A mature approach views vendor risk management as a continuous practice that starts with intake, moves through due diligence, and continues with monitoring, reassessment, and eventual offboarding. This is not about mistrusting every supplier or slowing procurement to a crawl. It is about putting structure around decisions so you can move quickly when risk is low and slow down when risk is high. When you do this well, you protect the business from surprise exposure while keeping teams productive. The goal is predictable, defensible risk decisions that survive change.
